JASMINE AMBROSIO

I was born in Guilin, China and raised in Ames, Iowa.

Throughout my childhood, I participated in many different arts and crafts from sewing and embroidery to knitting and quilting. During high school, I used my mother’s old sewing machine and created several dresses for the local high school fashion show. My efforts earned her Best Collection of 2015 and inspired me to pursue fashion as a potential career. I entered the Apparel Merchandising and Design program at Iowa State in hopes to learn more about the creative and technical design process. I hope to graduate and work for a great design firm, or do research about textiles in a museum setting

As an adopted daughter from China, I love to explore Chinese art, music, and fashion. I enjoy wearing traditional Chinese motifs and textiles combined with modern silhouettes. I also plays the guzheng, a traditional Chinese zither. I use my ethnic roots and culture as inspiration, both as a designer and as a personal aesthetic. For me, the heart of a designer’s inspiration is their identity: who they are, and who they hope to become.

In my free time, I like to read, listen to music, socialize, or simply relax with a cup of tea.
