My Story

I was born in Guilin, China and raised in Ames, Iowa.

Throughout my childhood, I participated in many different arts and crafts from sewing and embroidery to knitting and quilting. During high school, I used my mother’s old sewing machine and created several dresses for the local high school fashion show. My efforts earned me Best Collection of 2015 and inspired me to pursue fashion as a career. I entered the Apparel Merchandising and Design program at Iowa State in hopes to learn more about the creative and technical design process.

My Professional Development

I’ve worked for the past two years with the KnitWell group at Chico’s FAS in Fort Myers FL. Chico’s is a brand full of history and artistic soul, able to bring unique and contemporary fashion to a wide variety of women. Working in Chico’s, I’ve honed my talent in design and product development, reaching even beyond my Assistant position to spearhead the Dresses category which has seen hugely positive comp and margins over the past year. I get the opportunity to speak with designers and product developers in our domestic office as well as overseas which has made a conscientious designer, able to balance beautiful designs while staying within budget and development limitations.

I've decided to continue my journey at Iowa State University for my Master's and research both creative and technical design as well as fashion history. My research focuses on Apparel Design Education. I’m searching to find ways to increase efficiency and comprehension for apparel design students as well as provide resources for faculty seeking to improve their curriculums. I will be graduating in May 2025 with a Master of Science.

I’m ready for my next journey in Apparel Design as I continue to grow and learn. Let’s get to know each other!

Uniquely Me

My motto is artfulness, elegance, and culture

As an adopted daughter from China, I love to explore Chinese art, music, and fashion. I enjoy wearing traditional Chinese clothes and textiles. I also plays the guzheng, a traditional Chinese zither. I use my ethnic roots and culture as inspiration, both as a designer and as a personal aesthetic. For me, the heart of a designer’s inspiration is their identity: who they are, and who they hope to become.

Let’s get to know each other. Inquiries are always welcome.
